FAQ

What is seasoned firewood?
  • Seasoned firewood is wood that has been dried until its moisture content is below 20%. It has nothing to do with the wood looking "weathered." Seasoned wood will have a hollow sound when knocked together and might develop cracks in the end.
Why is seasoned wood preferred over green (wet) wood?
  • Seasoned wood burns more efficiently, producing more heat, less smoke, and less creosote buildup. It also tends to pop and spark less, but many species of wood continue to do so even after proper seasoning.
What is the difference between hardwood and softwood?
  • The words are kind of misnomers since the classification has nothing to do with the hardness or softness of the wood. Hardwoods are deciduous trees (lose their leaves seasonally), and softwoods are evergreens. Some hardwoods are relatively soft (poplar, balsa) and evergreens like southern yellow pine are fairly hard.
Is it okay to burn pine firewood in my indoor fireplace?
  • There is some debate on the safety of burning pine wood indoors. The majority of people say it's a safety hazard and should never be done. A few people claim it's okay as long as it is properly seasoned. We know that pine is heavy in resins and the wood burns hot but quick, so unless you want to constantly add wood to the fire, why risk it.
Do you cut down trees just for firewood?
  • No, we remove dead, damaged, and dangerous trees for homeowners. We will save the species that are good to burn. The others we try to send to a sawmill or have chipped when possible.
Where can you deliver to on my property?
  • We use a tracked mini-loader to deliver the bag of firewood anywhere the machine can access. we are able to fit through most openings with a minimum width of 36" and are unable to traverse most man-made structures (stairs, retaining walls, walking bridges, etc.)
Do you stack firewood?
  • Not typically, but if it is desired, we can determine that once on-site for an additional fee.
